Selling your business

Selling your business

Get the most from what you've built.

Selling a business is often the biggest financial decision an owner makes. Good preparation can make your business more attractive to buyers, and careful tax planning can make a real difference to what you keep from the sale.

We help you understand what your business is worth, get your financials ready for buyers and plan the sale so you can access any small business CGT concessions you're eligible for.

We work with clients across Melbourne from our offices in Mount Waverley, Port Melbourne and North Melbourne.

Frequently asked questions

How much is my business worth?

It depends on things like profit, growth, risk and the market for businesses like yours. A formal business valuation gives you a realistic figure to plan around and negotiate with.

What are the small business CGT concessions?

They're a set of tax concessions that can reduce, or in some cases eliminate, the capital gains tax on selling an active small business. They include the 15-year exemption, the 50% active asset reduction, the retirement exemption and the rollover. Strict eligibility rules apply, so it's worth planning well before the sale.

When should I start planning?

Ideally a few years before you sell. That gives you time to improve the business, tidy up the financials and structure the sale to make the most of any concessions.

Do you work with brokers and lawyers?

Yes. We're happy to work alongside your business broker and lawyer, so the financial, tax and legal sides of the sale fit together.
